What is Beta?

Beta is the second letter in the Greek alphabet, but beta also refers to a product that still probably has issues and is continually being developed. It is not advised to use beta software in a mission critical project. Nothing is stopping you from doing so, its just not normally a good idea.

Will Fireworks CS4 install alongside a copy of Fireworks CS3?

Yes. Adobe has taken special care to ensure the different versions can run side-by-side. However, being that Fireworks CS4 is beta, there could be potential issues so use caution when doing so.
